With the European Green Deal, the EU aims to become the first carbon neutral continent by 2050, reducing its emissions by minus 55 percent by 2030 compared to 1990. With its global pioneering role, the EU hopes that the rest of the world, and especially the USA, China and Russia, will follow suit, as without the main global emitters, the globally agreed climate targets cannot be realised.
