The University of Ghana has been one of six strategic partner universities of the University of Bonn since 2020. The partnership was strategically strengthened and intensified in a number of discussions, including with the university management and researchers from Bonn.
These included plans for larger joint projects between the Center for Development Research (ZEF) and the University of Ghana. With regard to the recently launched joint student exchange, the delegation discussed the latest developments together with the International Office of the University of Bonn. With the signing of a Collaborative Teaching Agreement between the Centre for Migration Studies in Accra and the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) in Bonn, both universities agreed on the framework conditions for joint teaching in the Katekisama program, which is headed in Bonn by Professor Dr. Maximilian Mayer.
Also on the agenda was participation in a panel discussion on the topic of migration, in which the African perspective was represented by Prof. Mary Setrana as Director of the Centre for Migration Studies at the University of Ghana. As part of the Global Fair, a marketplace on the international cooperation of the University of Bonn with a focus on the partner countries Ghana and Brazil, the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, presented the University of Ghana and the cooperation with the University of Bonn to an international audience. In addition, numerous cooperation projects with Ghana and Brazil as well as funding opportunities for students and researchers were presented at the Global Fair, which was met with great interest by the visitors from Accra.
"The intensification of cooperation with the University of Ghana, a world-renowned university, is a central component of our internationalization strategy in the segment of intensifying cooperation with the so-called Global South," said Prof. Dr. Birgit Ulrike Münch, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at the University of Bonn. "The exchange with the delegation from Ghana has opened up very concrete new opportunities to further expand cooperation between our universities, be it in the area of the successfully established DAAD centers, the Center for Development Research, the research networks on heritage or ethics. In addition to the expansion of proven formats to other subject areas, this also includes completely new projects, including closer cooperation at an administrative level, such as in university communication."
The delegation from the University of Ghana, led by Professor Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development, also included Professor Eric Osei-Assibey, Dean of International Programs Office, Pascaline Songsore, Senior Assistant Registrar and Prof. Mary Setrana, Director of the Centre for Migration Studies.
