The  war in Ukraine casts a shadow over the tumultuous conflicts in the Near and Middle East. They are destabilizing the region once known as the Fertile Crescent. Syria and its neighboring regions grapple with the repercussions of the civil war, the power struggle of regional and international actors, and the disastrous consequences of an earthquake at the beginning of 2023. What prospects does the country have for a secure and stable future?

Following an introductory lecture by Mr. Seidt on the current security situation in Syria, participants discussed the geopolitical impacts of the Syrian Civil War, international mediation efforts by the EU, USA, Turkey, and Iran, as well as the socio-economic impacts on the Syrian population.
