Congratulations to our young researchers Philip Nock and Frederik Schmitz!
Philip Nock, Research Fellow in the research group "Infrastructures of China's Modernity", was able to convince the jury of his doctoral project as part of an application process for a graduate scholarship from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V. Since 1 January 2024, he has been part of the International Doctoral College "Security and Development in the 21st Century". In his doctoral thesis "Awakening to the Era of Weaponised Interdependence? Semiconductor Production Networks, Sino-US Tech Competition, and how European Powers Respond", he is focussing on the security and technology policy response of European middle powers to the strategic competition between the USA and China.
Frederik Schmitz, also a Research Fellow in the research group "Infrastructures of China's Modernity", is a doctoral fellow of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung as of 1 January 2024. As part of his dissertation under the working title "Feel the Party", he is investigating performative approaches of the Chinese Communist Party, which attempts to generate political legitimacy through "tangible" memories of its own party history.
