The Traditions Decree regulates the Bundeswehr's cultivation of tradition and is therefore of central importance for soldiers' historical awareness. Military traditions help them to sharpen their understanding of their profession. According to Prof. Schlie, the withdrawal of the additions to the Traditions Decree will lead to more uncertainty about the troops' own awareness of tradition.
