The space capabilities of the major powers have long been an integral part of modern warfare, but the fifth sphere of human existence is still rarely the scene of direct military force. However, this could soon change, according to CASSIS Fellow PD Dr. Antje Nötzold in an interview with ARD's Morgenmagazin. According to the security expert, the major powers China, Russia, the USA and India are already engaged in an arms race in space. Should there be an open conflict between these powers in space, Germany's critical infrastructure would also be at risk. After all, business, science and the military have long been dependent on the capabilities of satellites in space.
