Wars always end either through the complete subjugation of one side or through settlement. The Pope's statements are to be understood as a wake-up call that the current war in Ukraine could escalate into a conflagration at any time. However, it is a serious mistake to address only one side, the victim of aggression, in an appeal for peace and to omit the aggressor from the address.
