Joachim Weber explains that Vladimir Putin's strategy has so far been successful, as he has effectively relied on wearing down Ukraine. The long-term impacts for Ukraine are still difficult to assess, but one thing is certain: Ukraine will lose territories in the near future. According to Weber, the situation could evolve into a "frozen" conflict scenario, resembling the current state of affairs. A crucial issue is how Europe and the USA will continue to align on the Ukraine crisis. Weber points out that it remains unclear to what extent these Western allies might diverge.
