Joachim Weber pointed out that arms production in Europe is currently reaching its limits. The existing production capacities are insufficient to keep up with the military powers worldwide. Weber emphasized that Europe urgently needs to develop new industrial sectors to build a sustainable military infrastructure. These sectors, he stated, have been "neglected" over the past 35 years. He explained that it would take at least three to five years for Europe to be able to compete on equal footing with the leading military nations of the world.
