In the FOCUS-Article, former US ambassador James D. Bindenagel and Karsten Jung emphasise the urgency for Germany to prepare for a possible war, regardless of the outcome of the US elections. They argue that the USA will no longer offer the same reliability as Germany's security partner, forcing Germany and Europe to take greater responsibility for their own security. The two experts criticise the fact that despite repeated calls from Washington to invest more in defence, Germany is not sufficiently prepared. They emphasise that current armaments projects and the political discussion about them in Germany are not keeping pace with the security policy challenges.
