International Women's Day: The role of women in wars and conflict
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the role of women in modern wars and conflicts is being discussed. Although women are statistically rarely involved as combatants, they are often heavily affected in armed conflicts. Sexualised violence, abduction and slavery are also a sad reality in today's conflicts. Violence against women is used as a weapon of war - be it in Ukraine, Israel or in many other conflicts.
However, women are by no means always just victims. They often also take on the roles of perpetrators, accomplices, activists or negotiators. Women often play a particularly important role in ending conflicts.
