Integration Through Law and the European Union: Political and Legal Developments vs. Polycrisis

24 and 25 October, International Research Conference in European Integration, organised by Institute of Political Science, CASSIS and CERC of the University of Bonn and hosted by the Institut français, Bonn.

With this international research conference we aim to promote the dialogue on European integration and reflect on the history of integration processes against the backdrop of polycrisis experiences.
We emphasise an exchange on legal dimensions of integration, highlight the law as substantive instrument of integration and question the conceptual and accompanying scientific discourse:

  • Integration through law: What does the grand theory teach us and how does it perform in face of the polycrisis?
  • Resilience of the legal community: Which aspects are crucial for a political, legal and institutional balance?
  • Populism and illiberal trends: How to deal with populist parties and governments from European perspective?
  • Conception of the EU past and present: What is the conception of the European Union? In how far do political, legal and citizen expectations towards the EU diverge?

The conference will take place as one-day conference starting on Thursday 24 at 2pm and concluding on Friday 25 October at 1 pm at the Robert-Schuman-Salle of the Institut Français in the heart of Bonn. We will have two panels on Thursday afternoon and two panels on Friday morning chaired by independent moderators. Invited experts will provide input and discuss with their fellow panelists and the audience the salient issues.
