Parteistaat und Ideologie: wie entziffert man Chinas moderne Herrschaftspraktiken?
May 19, 2022 | 18:30 - 20:00 pm CET | Online
After a long period of pragmatism and political opening, ideological narratives have returned to the political center in China. Even before Xi Jinping, the character core of the Leninist party-state had never dissolved. But more than almost any previous party and state leader, Xi is pushing a unified ideology that emphasizes Chinese-style Marxism, centralized political leadership, nationalism and patriotism. This ideology is also embodied in the "Chinese Dream," which promotes a successful and globally influential China as a counter-model to Western democracies.
What are the central ideological components of Chinese Communist Party rule today? What role do the evocation of traditions, history, and cultural heritage play in the context of a hypermodern individualistic society? What forms and strategies of propaganda can be observed in China. How can their slogans and messages be deciphered for a Western audience, and where is the key to deciphering China's ideological political language? How convinced are party members of their own ideology? What implications does the even greater ideologization of politics in China have for Europe in the context of increasing system competition?
