Since his retirement in September 2019, Mr. Nielson has regularly lectured to national and international audiences on the topics of digitalization, AI, cyber, demographic development in DEU and the resulting consequences. He was appointed by Herbert Reul to the team of experts of the Ministry of the Interior NRW with the task to work out strategies for a better disaster control based on the flood disaster in NRW. The final report was submitted in 2022. Since September 2023, Mr. Nielson has been working for the Montag Foundation in the area of Citizens' Council Education and Learning.
