Profile
Dr. Gedaliah Afterman heads the Asia Policy Program at the Abba Eban Institute and lectures at Reichman University and Tel Aviv University. His expertise spans Asian regional security, Chinese foreign policy, and superpower competition, with a special focus on the rising influence of middle powers in Asia and the Middle East. Gedaliah is particularly interested in building strategic partnerships between Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Previously, Gedaliah served as an International Strategic Policy Specialist with Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), where he focused on Asian security. He also worked as a diplomat at the Australian Embassy in Beijing, dealing with China’s foreign policy, including its impact on the Middle East. In addition, he was the China Program Lead at the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) in Jerusalem.
A prolific contributor to international media, his analysis has been featured in leading outlets such as The New York Times, Financial Times, Foreign Policy, The Economist, LA Times, Nikkei Asia, South China Morning Post, Asia Times, The Australian, Haaretz, and The Jerusalem Post.
