DAAD Long-Term Lectureship in Strategy, Diplomacy and International Security Policy, Reichman University
Within the framework of the cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD), it has been made possible to establish a long-term lectureship in strategy, diplomacy and international security policy at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy at Reichman University in Herzliya, Israel. Reichman University (formerly IDC Herzliya) is one of Israel's most prestigious universities. In addition to aspects of cultural exchange, the lectureship includes the goal of promoting and expanding German and European-Israeli research cooperation in the field of security and strategy research.
Tasks
Reichman University is a private university created in 1994 on the model of the US Ivy League universities. With a 30% international student population, it is one of the most international universities in Israel and also one of the most prestigious due to its research strength. The Long-Term Lectureship in Strategy, Diplomacy and International Security Policy is based at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy. The Lauder School has an outstanding international reputation in the fields of strategic foreign and security policy, the technology-society nexus, government studies, and Middle and Near Eastern studies, and is home to nearly 800 students and approximately 25 faculty members. The above subjects are taught in English and Hebrew. In addition to the Lauder School's close cooperation with CASSIS, there are numerous other partnerships with German, European and international colleges and universities.
Profile, Focus, Aim
The Lectureship in Strategy, Diplomacy, and International Security Policy is dedicated to the research and teaching of international security issues in terms of strategic studies and contributes to the Lauder School's undergraduate programs, particularly with offerings in strategy and security studies. One of the central tasks of the long-term lectureship will be the practice-oriented further development of security policy research. In this context, classical security policy topics of strategic foreign policy and security research will play an equally important role as new challenges in the areas of cyber, climate, and space, among others.
Lectures and seminars in English for Bachelor and Master students are expected (16 credits per academic year (approx. 2-3 courses per semester)) as well as the regular publication of own research papers in leading publishers and journals on at least two of the four following topics: International Security (including Human Security and Strategic Foresight), International Relations/Global Governance (including Transatlantic Relations), International Organizations (including European Union), and International Technology Policy.
Also expected is the active promotion of German and European-Israeli research cooperation through further intensification of networking with professional colleagues, including joint project proposals, events, workshops, and excursions. A component of the long-term lectureship in strategy, diplomacy, and international security policy is also participation in the work of the Lauder School in the form of supervision of students (MA theses optional) and participation in examinations, inter-university delegations, and conferences. Part of the duties of the long-term lecturer for strategy, diplomacy and international security policy is, in consultation with the DAAD Bonn and the Information Center Tel Aviv, participation in the DAAD programs in Israel, study and scholarship counseling, support and mediation of cooperations with German universities as well as conveying a contemporary view on Germany.

PhD in political science (security policy, international relations), government or related subjects. An academic profile in interdisciplinary foreign policy and security studies, diplomacy and/or strategy research is expected. Experience in soliciting and implementing externally funded projects is advantageous. Very good English skills and several years of teaching experience in dealing with students of different years and diverse cultural backgrounds are required. Professional experience in government institutions or inter-/supranational organizations is an advantage. The willingness to actively support the work of the DAAD and to promote regional and international academic networking as well as to promote security policy and strategic discourse in the Federal Republic through high-profile activities is part of the requirements profile.
