Germany's failed Russia policy of the last two decades, with its collective misconceptions and misjudgments, is closely linked to its energy policy since 2002, especially its gas import dependence on Russia. The security of supply factor and the associated geopolitical risks have been largely ignored or marginalized by the federal governments, but also by the relevant economists and economic journalists as well as the business community.
